Discomfortable

One of the few things that no one can argue on is that we in the West use way too much energy. Our often exorbitant use of energy is largely because of the creature comforts many of us have come to not only be used to, but also expect. One could then say that if energy use is directly proportionate to how comfortable we are....just maybe, we're too comfortable. "(dis)Comfort-Able" was a brief for the British Standards Institute competition on design for sustainability, and explores the notion of the relationship between the level of comfort we have in our homes to the devices in the home that create this comfort. "(dis)Comfort-Able" seeks to bring back the once natural controls we had due to what were once practically finite resources. For instance, if you took too long of a shower it used to be that you would run out of hot water and others wouldn't be able to have hot hater in the household. So on that same note, what if the thermostat told you only how much you were spending? Or the table lamp became a glowing, beet-red when it was on too long? How could determine, control and adjust all of your comfort levels?
